Goodwill Races for Awareness

Group 1

The annual wheelchair obstacle course was turned into a relay event when the rain brought the fundraiser indoors on Saturday, May 21st. Narrow hallways at Tri Rivers Career Center gave racers a different challenge this year.

Nine teams, some with members who never sat in a wheelchair before, raced to see who would be first to compete three lengths of a course about 60 feet long.Winners 1

It all came down to the three final teams, the Blue Thundercats, Peacocks and Jordan’s Hot Wheels. Jordan’s Hot Wheels took the win for the ninth year in a row! Members of the Jordan’s Hot Wheels team included: Jordan Freeman, Michael Freeman and Matthew Wollett.

The efforts of Goodwill, local volunteers and sponsors helped to raise close to $18,000.00. Funds were raised through racing, auction items, 50/50, quilt raffle, spaghetti dinner provided by the Warehouse and rounding up at our retail stores. Proceeds benefit  the Goodwill programs and services in Marion, Delaware, Union, Crawford and Morrow County.

It’s Wheel-A-Thon Time!

It’s a relay race around the track and the spectators are cheering fervently for their racing friends.  The racers are red-faced as their gloved hands pump the wheels furiously.  The crowd laughs as several racers learn that driving a wheelchair is harder than it looks, going straight when you want to turn, or backwards when you want to go forward.  The leader boards change and the excitement builds on the road to the final four.

Who will win this year?  Hopefully your team!!!  But the definite winners will be the men and women of the Delaware County area who benefit from the services of Goodwill Industries.

We invite you to join us on Saturday, August 18th for our 8th annual fund-raiser as a participant or spectator.  The Wheel-A-Thon helps you learn first-hand about the challenges and barriers people with disabilities face on a daily basis.

Goodwill Industries is a non-profit organization that has served the “heart of Ohio” for over thirty years.  Our traditional role is to assist physically and economically disadvantaged individuals seeking employment by providing them with job skills, training, and experience.  It is an established practice of autonomous Goodwill agencies internationally to adapt to meet the needs of each local community; therefore, our current services include programs such as Job Development/Job Placement, Wheels-To-Work, Emergency Clothing, and the Housing Program. Proceeds from this annual event will support our programs and services.
