Jordan Freeman had his game face on.

At the 25th annual Marion Goodwill Industries Wheel-A-Thon on Saturday, May 9th at Tri-Rivers Career Center, Freeman led his team, Jordan’s Hot Wheelers, to their seventh consecutive title. 1234066_687700718024205_7339734050827689351_n

The 15-year-old Freeman, who has spina bifida, doesn’t say much. He lets his wheeling do the talking.

“I’ve gotten faster,” said Freeman, who had a large cheering section in the parking lot.

His father, Mike Freeman, said they began taking part in the event “because we wanted to help out Goodwill. Now we can’t get away from it.”

Goodwill Industries Director Bob Jordan said he and Ed Hutchman came up with the idea for a wheel-a-thon a quarter century ago as a way to “raise awareness for individuals with disabilities.”

Goodwill emphasizes abilities through its job training programs. The agency serves Marion, Delaware, Union, Crawford and Morrow counties.

In addition to the racing, 38 auction items were sold.

“It’s just a good cause. Goodwill is a good place. It helps a lot of people. My arms are Jello,” she said.

Jordan’s grandchildren — Katie, 9, and Colin, 5 — had plenty of energy. 635667742277231709-Mar-0510-WheelaThon002After a first round elimination, Colin seemed disappointed but his older sister simply said, “Oh well.”

They were joined by their father, Brad, in the race. Mother Kirsten chose to watch.

“I’m the cheering section. It’s just a fun, but important, activity that brings awareness to those with disabilities,” she said.

“It gives you an idea of what they have to go through every day.”

Rushmore took second, Peggy Mae’s Cakes third and Roger’s Hot Wheelers fourth in the 8-team event.
