“That Elf on a Shelf is always watching me. Isn’t that illegal?”

This is a reprint of a post I did last July, but a timely reminder of ways to simplify the upcoming holidays…

WHAT’S THIS? CHRISTMAS IN JULY? I stopped down at The Backwoods Pizza and Carryout and who did I find? SAM, the boy’s version of the elf on the shelf, hanging out in the ice cooler! We wondered where he had been.

It’s probably not too soon to be thinking about the Christmas holiday season, especially if you would like to make some big changes in your celebration. Over the next few days, I’m going to share some ways that you may want to simplify your holidays, as well as ways that thrifting may replace your traditional retail shopping.

Check out the Center for a New American Dream‘s “Simplify The Holidays” Booklet available at <http://www.newdream.org/resources/publications> (free, but log in required) for some great ideas on how to get started on a simpler, less stressful holiday.

Here’s our family’s hint #1: Everyone seems to love The Elf on the Shelf. Keep your eyes peeled NOW for your own thrifted version (ours was $1). Elves are good observers and report things quickly to Santa Claus to keep your family in line! Check out the tradition at <http://elfontheshelf.com/AboutUs/TheTradition.aspx>.

If you need me, I’ll be down at the ice cooler!
